- NO LOVE FOR MANDATES
At the moment, Democrats are struggling to get a renewable energy mandate passed in the Senate. The National Review has decided this is a bad idea because, well, a press release from Pete Domenici's office told them so: - TODAY'S TNR REVIEW OF COLUMNISTS
Reihan notes that Paul Krugman and David Brooks have both, eerily, written columns on the topic of height today. I'd add that, if this was an accident, it's something they should do more often. It's like a writing exercise where two writers get the same topic and do it any way they can. Both columnists are at their best. Krugman gives a very smart, logical, and detailed analysis of an issue I knew nothing about before. Brooks offers up some very funny and endearing comic-sociological observations. Somehow, the similarity of topic gives a great insight into how two different but very smart minds operate. - JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE PARANOID DOESN'T MEAN MICHAEL MOORE ISN'T A MARKETING GENIUS
Advertising Age is reporting that a pirated copy of Michael Moore's new movie Sicko has turned up on the Internet and is now easily viewable for free. The article goes on to say that

- Political Activists Say They Are Not Terrorists
Political Activists Say They Are Not Terrorists The RNC Welcoming Committee, an "anarchist/anti-authoritarian organizing body" which provided logistical support to individuals protesting RNC08 in St. Paul, gave a rare press conference on the morning of 9/4/08. The organizers of the group says they have maintained a policy of not speaking to the press until now. Group member Celia Kutz says they can no longer remain silent because Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher has targeted the group "It's become personal" says Kutz. Eight members of the group have been charged with conspiracy and acts of terrorism. "There are no terrorists on this stage. There are no terrorists in the Ramsey County Jail," added Kutz - cantwinoccupationsp1.jpg (JPEG Image, 600x450 pixels)

Ah, this is just silly (but funny). - t r u t h o u t | Palin's Speech to Nowhere
Oh, so glad that someone is checking the record here. The populist claims are false, so what now? Will Bunch writes... "It was a Speech to Nowhere because Palin also boasted seconds before her lie of fighting against wasteful earmarks in Congress, even though she pushed for and accepted $27 million of such grants when she was mayor of Wasilla." Sarah Palin was spinning yarns in her speech, but a recycled platitude for the digital age remains: does the truth even matter anymore? Cynical, yes. Is the answer "yes it does" ? I certainly hope so, but why should the truth matter during elections in 2008 if it has had no success in sinking into the U.S. public psyche since 2000? Maybe U.S. voters (the 37% of the eligible among us who show up at the polls) don't care about the truth.
